Wyvis Burrell Hester, 82, of Louisville, Mississippi, formerly of Sallis, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, surrounded by her loving family.

Wyvis was born on January 17, 1944, to John Thaddeus Burrell and Eva Maria Burrell in Sallis. She married Bobby Floyce Hester on June 30, 1967. They had three beloved children: Johnny, Robert, and Cindy. Wyvis retired as a Deputy Clerk of the Attala County Chancery Court with over 37 years of service.

Wyvis was filled with love, laughter, and grace. She had the best stories for a laugh and wise advice to make good decisions. She faced hard times and fought a hard battle of health issues with a positive attitude. A dedicated Mississippi State Bulldogs fan, every Saturday was wrapped in maroon and white. She loved playing cards and board games with her family.

Her children were profoundly dedicated to her care, and her daughter was her full-time caregiver for the last years of her life. Robert and Cindy cherished her and provided loving support throughout her life.

If you knew Wyvis, you know her greatest blessings were her five granddaughters. She adored them with her whole heart and loved them fiercely, and they were just as devoted to her.

She has been reunited in Heaven with her husband of 54 years, Bobby Floyce Hester; son, John Randall Hester; parents, John and Eva Burrell; and brothers, John Kenna Burrell and Stacy Jenkins Burrell.

Wyvis is survived by her son, Robert Hester (Kim) of Seymour, Tennessee; daughter, Cindy Lucas (Doug) of Louisville, Mississippi; grandchildren, Brittany Lucas, Kaylin Hester, Kacy Payne (Jole), Lauren Lucas, and Katie Gamberine (Will); brother, Rex (Paulette) Burrell; and sister, Nancy Beck.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Sharon Bates, Ta’Quista Clark, Amy Ashford, and Leigh Turnipseed for their exceptional kindness and care over the years, and going above and beyond for Wyvis.
