Melita Lowry Bordelon, age 81, departed this life at home in Madden on Monday, December 1, 2025, after a battle with dementia.
Born March 17, 1944, in Pascagoula, MS, to Warren and Annette Lowry. She lived in Memphis for many years before relocating to Kosciusko in 1988. Her final stop on her journey led her to Madden, MS. In her early years, she worked as a clerk at Sears in Memphis, where her highlight was meeting Elvis, as he came in to shop. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, juggling the many activities of her children. She loved God, her family, her church. Her hobbies were painting and decorating. What kept her going was her servant spirit, she was always one of the first to volunteer to help. Often finding herself burning her candle at both ends. We frequently joked that she only knew how to say “no” to her children. Melita was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Memphis, and later at First Presbyterian Church in Kosciusko, where she sang in the choir at both churches and volunteered any where she was needed.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Barry Bordelon, her brother, Morgan Lowry (Nadia), and her children, Regina Guy, Sherry Bordelon, Ronnie Bordelon (Robyn), Kerry Bordelon (Preston), Andy Guy (Melody), and Aimee Bordelon (Tim), and many grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Melita was preceded in death by her parents, Warren & Annette Lowry, sister, Barbara Lowry, brother, Richard “Pontiac” Lowry, and grandchildren, Joshua Bordelon and Kirsten Willis.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, December 11, at First Presbyterian Church, 603 Smythe Street, Kosciusko, Mississippi. Visitation with family will be before the service from 10-11AM. There will be no interment afterwards. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate with us.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome to be made to the Mission Fund at First Presbyterian Church-Kosciusko.
