May Jewette Battles, known by her friends and loved ones as Jewette, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 20, 2022. Jewette was born to her parents, Mary and Raymond Thomas, in Hornersville, MO on March 11, 1937. In 1957, she married the love of her life Tommie Battles of Lepanto, AR. The couple had two children, Leslie Warren Battles and Russell Kerry Battles. Eventually, the family relocated to Kosciusko, MS, which Jewette quickly adopted as her hometown. She engaged in many civic activities with the aim of preserving and growing the city of Kosciusko. Jewette was a hardworking and dedicated woman of many talents. She taught herself to paint, wrote several books for adults and children, opened a framing business, volunteered for the Red Hat Society, owned several rental properties, and a successful restaurateur. However, her biggest passion in life was researching her genealogy in order to preserve history and honor her family. Jewette is survived by her husband, Tommie Battles of Kosciusko, MS; sons Les Battles and spouse Cheryl Battles of Madison, MS and Russ Battles and spouse Tammy Battles of Olive Branch, MS; grandchildren Josh Battles of Texas, Megan Parsons (née Battles) of Tennessee, and Jay Battles, Justin Battles, and Caitlin Stubbs (née Battles) of Mississippi; and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Raymond Thomas, her brother Raymond “Bud” Thomas, and sister Stella Thomas. Visitation is Sunday, January 23rd, 2022 from 3:00pm to 5:00 pm at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko, MS. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Jordan Funeral Home.
