Ivy Rosemary Johnson Kelly, lovingly known as “Rosemary,” passed away on May 10, 2026, at the age of 78. Rosemary was born on June 22, 1947, in Kosciusko, MS to Mary Lou and Ivy Johnson. She was welcomed into a loving family that included her two older sisters, Bobbie and Irene, as well as her older brother, Carlton Johnson.
In 1980, she moved to Grand Prairie to be closer to her sisters and their families. Over the next 46 years, Rosemary made her home throughout North Texas, where she built lasting friendships and created many cherished memories with those she loved.
Throughout her life, Rosemary held a variety of jobs, always demonstrating a strong work ethic and dedication to those around her. She retired in 2018 after 30 years with Texas Health Resources, where she served as Payroll Manager. Her commitment, reliability, and kindness left a lasting impression on both coworkers and friends.
Rosemary had many hobbies and interests, but one of her greatest joys was traveling. She loved the adventure of the open road and created treasured memories taking her children on road trips when they were young, including visits to Turner Falls Park, family trips back to Mississippi, and vacations to Gulf Shores. In 1994, Rosemary embraced a new adventure by taking a seasonal position at Glacier National Park in Montana, where she worked for two summers, creating memories she cherished for the rest of her life. She continued to enjoy road trips throughout her life, always finding joy in the journey as much as the destination.
In 1999, Rosemary achieved a meaningful personal milestone when she earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas, completing years of dedication in honor of her mother. Her accomplishment reflected her perseverance, pride in education, and commitment to personal growth.
Rosemary was known for her caring heart, strength, independence, and deep devotion to her family. She treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren and took great pride in watching her family grow.
She is survived by her daughter, Shona, and her husband, Alex Smith; her son, Sam Kelly and his wife Jana; as well as three grandsons, Zach Wilson, Bryce Wilson, and Chase Wilson and two granddaughters, Meagan and her husband Cale Darhower and Morgan Kelly.
Rosemary’s love, warmth, adventurous spirit, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her life was a blessing to her family and friends, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
