Katie Estelle Black, 84, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at her home. Visitation is from 10-11 a.m. Friday, August 21 at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Jordan Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. Rev. Chas Roland will officiate. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in West Point for 40 years and Bovina Baptist Church for 10 years near Vicksburg. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Carley (John) of Vicksburg; sons, Gerald Black (Kim) of Ocean Springs and Billy Black (Emily) of West Point; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Janie Carpenter, Jessie Ramage, and Elouise Hurta, all of Kosciusko; and caregivers, Florrie Edwards and Alice Harrison. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years, Gerald Black; brothers, Richard Melcher and Freddie Melcher; and sisters, Mildred Burden, Louise Lawrence, Betty Jean Simmons, and Jimmie Nell McCool. Pallbearers are Shane Carley, James "Doc" Carley, Gerald Black, Zach Carley, Jacob Carley, John Chaney, Neal Ramage, and Robert Black. The family would like to give special thanks to her caregivers and all the employees of Advantage Hospice, especially Lynn Cheslek and Elmer Neilson. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association.
