Edith Mae Thompson Bowie completed her long journey with Dementia and took her first breath in Heaven on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Campbell's Cove, St. Catherine's Village, Madison, MS. Edith was born July 28, 1928 in McCool, MS to Davis Maxwell and Mamie Simpson Thompson. She graduated Valedictorian from McCool High School. She married her childhood sweetheart, Sidney Charles Bowie, Jr., and over the years lived in several states including Illinois, California, Texas, New Mexico and Missouri. Edith enjoyed several years working as Administrative Assistant to the head librarian of Millsaps College and dedicated many remaining years as Bookkeeper to the family business, Bowie Audio Visual. Her life and heart were most dedicated to her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney C. Bowie, Jr., two daughters; Rebecca Ann Bowie and Susan Renee Bowie, her parents, sisters Lillie Dee Kerr, Lucy Fowler and Mamie Lois Huffman, brothers Ira Thompson, Davis Thompson and Ralph Thompson and daughter in law, Dana Bowie. Mrs. Bowie is survived by her sons Sidney Bowie, III (Karen), Jim Bowie and daughter Nancy Bowie Smylie (Bob). Grandchildren Kim Hartmann, Becky Jeffries, Kristie Constantine, Tiffany Cain, Jennifer Bradley, Nicole Cobb, Meredith Smylie, Mason Smylie, Samuel Smylie and several great grandchildren. A private, family memorial service will be held graveside in McCool Cemetery on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Our family would like to express deepest appreciation to the staff and faculty of St. Catherine's Village Campbell's Cove Magnolia Wing and to our genuinely loving Sta-Home Hospice staff. We also extend gratitude to Dr. William Loper who provided health care to Edith and her husband Sid for many decades. In lieu of flowers the family requests that all memorials please be made to the Samaritan's Purse or House of Providence in Detroit, MI. All glory to God.
