Charles E. Newman, Sr. Ethel Charles E. Newman, Sr., 84, passed away on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at his home. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 17 at Jordan Funeral Home in Kosciusko. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, August 18 at Kosciusko First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Parkway Cemetery. Rev. Barry Corbett, Dr. Danny Lanier, and Rev. Dan West will officiate. He graduated from MS State University with a Specialist Degree in Education. He retired as a teacher/administrator after 40 years of service. He was Principal of Ethel High School, taught at Durant Municipal School District and Pheba, MS. He taught a total of four semesters at the vocational complex one semester each for Winston, Choctaw, Webster and Attala Counties. He was Commissioner for the Attala County Soil Conservation District from 1995-2014. He loved farming, building and construction, hunting, and spending time with his family. He was a member of Kosciusko First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Catherine Hubbard Newman of Ethel; son, Ed (Gayle) Newman of Ethel; grandsons, Justin Newman of Nashville, TN and Josh Newman of Ethel; brothers, George Dewey Newman, Jr. of Covington, TN and Sam (Debbie) Newman of Florence, MS; and sister-in-law, Lillian White of Utica, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Dewey Newman, Sr and Ruby Pearl Hennington Newman; brother, Tom Newman; and sister, Mickey Mosley. Pallbearers will be Herbert Dew, Edwin Albin, Clinton Brock, Frank Montague, Johnny Sides, David White, Tim Jenkins, and Donald Milner. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Smith, Johnny Belk, Bill Pettit, Dr. Edward Bryant, Frank Criswell, Charles Hill, Aaron Johnson, Dr. Don Smith, Morris Massey, George Mitchell, Kindred at Home Health employees and Halcyon Hospice employees.
