Carmelita Shurden May, 68, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 16, 2015. Visitation is Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 1-3 p.m. at McCool Baptist Church. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. in the church with burial to follow in the McCool Cemetery. Rev. Justin Knight, Rev. Dick Hill and Rev. Jim Sallee will officiate. She was an active member of McCool Baptist Church and enjoyed ministering to others. She was a former Director of Nurses at the Attala County Nursing Home, worked for Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital and also worked in the home health field. She was the most loving and giving person you would ever meet. She never met a stranger. Her love for Christ and family was evident in her daily life as a community nurse and caregiver for many others. Survivors include her husband, Morris May of McCool; daughters, Lorie (Glenn) Deason of McCool, Lilia (Douglas) Fisher of McCool, and Lydia Vonnita May of West Point; grandchildren, Lilia Karis Deason, Lorie-Jane Fisher and Douglas Fisher, Jr.; brother, Thomas Gene Shurden of McCool; twin sister, Vonnita Nunn of McCool; niece and nephew, Carmelita Charwaynne Canterberry and Billy Shurden Nunn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Wellborn Shurden and Mildred Hunt Shurden; and brothers, Willis Hunt Shurden and Princeton Wellborn Shurden. Memorials may be made to McCool Baptist Church, Bowie Chapel Church, or French Camp Academy.
